Allergic Reactions On Skin
Itchy Skin
Sneezing is only one symptom of allergies. Skin reactions like hives, rashes, or bumps from insect bites and stings can cause a great deal of discomfort. Allergic reactions like itching can escalate quickly, so it is important to be prepared.
Many skin reactions are harmless, but if you are worried, especially if accompanied by other symptoms, consult your doctor.
Hives
This itchy skin condition is a common allergic reaction caused by the release of histamines and other chemicals into your bloodstream. Seek relief with creams or sprays that can soothe your skin and prevent further irritation. Symptoms of hives can include:
Itchy, red or skin coloured welts
Welts that “appear” white when you apply pressure
Swelling or bumps
Rashes
Rashes can be bothersome and unsightly. Many things can cause rashes, such as an allergic reaction (including a reaction to medication), infection, overheating, or irritant contact. Try to avoid scratching or aggravating skin. Symptoms of rashes can include:
Redness
Itchiness
Swelling or bumps
Oozing or blisters
Flaking or scaling
Insect Bites
When insects bite or sting your skin, your immune system reacts by causing redness, swelling, itching or pain. A topical cream can provide fast, effective relief of itchiness and pain caused by insects. Symptoms of bug bites or stings can include:
Redness
Swelling
Itching
Tenderness
Blistering

Nature Itches
When spending time outdoors, it is important to be aware of insects and poisonous plants that can cause itching, pain, and allergic reactions. A few common sources of outdoor itches include:
Poison ivy
Poison oak
Poison sumac
Mosquitos
Blackflies
Sun Rash Itches
Too much sun can cause a blistering rash that demands relief. This red, itchy rash appears as a result of sensitivity to sunlight and is most common on the upper chest, neck, back, and the back of arms.
Everyday Allergies
While a runny nose could be the sign of an impending cold, if your nose and eyes are also itchy, it is likely allergies. Be prepared; over 47% of Canadians suffer unexpected allergic symptoms each year*.
